Scoops!
Author: wg photog

My final photo shoot on Tuesday was of this really cool new ice cream place in downtown Milledgeville. I left the tennis match and went to get some dinner then headed to Scoops. I introduced myself and was quickly told that I could not photograph inside the store. So I left and thought about it and then called my News Editor to see what we could do because this place is sooo cool that it could make for some great front page imagery for the Colonnade. After speaking to him I called Scoops’ manager and told them that the story would run on the front page this week if we got some images and after about a 45 min wait, they called and gave me the ok to shoot. So I hurried down to get some shots and had a great time joking around with their awesome staff in the process. It was my hope that the story would run lead on the front page this week, but I was shown how much my opinion mattered when it comes to photos this week because Scoops got bumped by three images that didn’t even deserve to get published in a childrens book, but what do I know about visuals, I’m only the Photo Editor. Hah. Hope you like the images because I think they turned out great!

On Saturday the GCSU Bobcats Basketball Team played a thrilling game with a come from behind win in the last three and a half minutes of the game. The Thundercats, the semi-official mascots are at every home game to cheer on the Bobcats and heckle the opponent’s bench. There have been no incidents as of yet but campus police is always standing by just in case the Thundercats cross the line.

On Wednesday, Georgia College students got out some Midterm’s related aggression on front campus with the inflatables that were brought out. The jousting ring was one of the most popular and I even got hit pretty hard once while trying to get photos. It was a good time and a great stress reliver!

Starting Monday and ending today, we have Tibetian Monks on campus to make a Mandala Sand Painting. It was pretty cool to watch. I was only able to make it to the beginning where I took this picture. Before the start laying down grains of sand, they use chalk to section off the board. It was very humbling to see there concentration hard at work.

I got a new lens yesterday! A Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS! So today was day 2 of the NCAA Division II Regional Baseball tournement, that is being held at my school and I wanted to go play with my new toy, so I used my job at the Colonnade to get me in to take some photos. This game was Georgia College and State University (my school) vs Columbus State University. We had already won one game yesterday and if CSU lost this game it would be their ticket home. So a lot was on the line for them. The Umps had just overruled a call that would have ended the 3rd inning, in favor of GCSU. So the CSU coach was very unhappy about this and a few seconds after this photo, he was ejected. Which to me was no surprise if you had heard what he was saying to the ump. But it was a good game for us, we won 16-2 and now are advancing to round 3. I am really hoping we win because that means we go to the College World Series and I would love to go take some photos there.

Original Date/Time: 10:54pm Sunday, April 9, 2006Today was a pretty good day overall. Brittany and her mom asked me to come and help out at Brittany’s brother’s, Richard, Eagle Scout Ceremony. They want to do some kind of keepsake for the three boys so Brittany and I went to take tons of photos and that we did. It was at this great little place by a lake in the real Buckhead, out near Madison, Ga. The pond even had two rare black Swans. Anyways, we took lots of great photos and ate some great hamburgers and just had a good day overall. I have started to feel more comfortable around her family, so I had a good time joking around with all of them today as well.

Original Date/Time: 10:49pm Saturday, April 8, 2006Tonight, Brittany and I went to the GC&SU Spring Dance Minor Concert for an assignment for the Colonnade. It was Brittany’s assignment, so I was just there for advice, but I brought my camera so that I could get in for free. Anyways, since I could basically “play” while Brittany worried about getting a good photo, I used 1/15 sec. for almost all of my frames hoping to get an image like the above. I am pretty happy about it and I hope you like it. After the Concert, we went and got some ice cream from Bruster’s; Wow I forgot how much ice cream they give, but it was really good. Goodnight.
