A Beauty & Some Train Tracks
Author: wg photog

Yesterday, what a day! My neighbor, Mallory, and I took a short walk to the railroads tracks that run through Milledgeville for a informal, last minute photo shoot. I had no clue what I was in for… she is a great model and she is absolutely beautiful! So here is a small selection of what I got and it was a very hard edit to choose these five.

The GCSU Jazz Band presented 1940’s Swing featuring the music of Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller in Russell Auditorium on Thursday and Friday. The music was superb as usual and always makes me want for spend some endless nights in a jazz bar somewhere sometime soon. These images are from the Thursday evening show and as you can see from the band director, Dr. Todd Shiver, in the third image clapping, they put on one heck of a show. Enjoy!

My final photo shoot on Tuesday was of this really cool new ice cream place in downtown Milledgeville. I left the tennis match and went to get some dinner then headed to Scoops. I introduced myself and was quickly told that I could not photograph inside the store. So I left and thought about it and then called my News Editor to see what we could do because this place is sooo cool that it could make for some great front page imagery for the Colonnade. After speaking to him I called Scoops’ manager and told them that the story would run on the front page this week if we got some images and after about a 45 min wait, they called and gave me the ok to shoot. So I hurried down to get some shots and had a great time joking around with their awesome staff in the process. It was my hope that the story would run lead on the front page this week, but I was shown how much my opinion mattered when it comes to photos this week because Scoops got bumped by three images that didn’t even deserve to get published in a childrens book, but what do I know about visuals, I’m only the Photo Editor. Hah. Hope you like the images because I think they turned out great!

More on my crazy Tuesday… I got a call from my Assistant Photo Editor not long before I went to the tennis match where she told me that she would no longer be able to make it to the softball game and we had to have that for the weeks paper. So I hurried to the tennis match to get some shots then left and went straight to the softball game sometime during the 3rd inning. I stuck around there until about the 6th inning, then headed back over to the tennis match to relax and not shoot for a little bit. Read on because my day is not nearly done.

Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday… what a crazyily busy day. First off, I went to the tennis match since I have enjoyed shooting it over the past month or so plus we were playing one of the best teams in Div. II so I knew there would be some great tennis played that day. I didn’t shoot as much this time around because I am quite a fan of tennis, so I leaned on my camera for a while and just watched. Sometimes it is nice to just watch and not try to capture that perfect moment. But keep reading to see how the day got crazier…

On Friday Lindsey and I took a trip out to Brown’s Crossing. I had heard rumors about a very old town in Baldwin County somewhere that was still in very good shape since it is on private land and Brown’s Crossing was exactly what I had heard about, I just didn’t know where it was. The town Brown’s Crossing started back in the mid 1800s and in 1906 it got the first cotton gin in the county. The town hasn’t seen permanent residents in quite some time but in the past they have used it for a crafts fair.

The sunset was gorgeous tonight, so when Lindsey and I got back from the digital lab I quickly grabbed my camera and we hurried back outside to get some pictures. The clouds with the blue sky turned out to be the best part and Lindsey was a great model.
